In response to American officials urging Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to flee Kyiv, Mr. Zelenskyy pushed back this evening.
In a conversation with high-ranking members of the American government, who asked President Zelenskyy to leave, he responded, "The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride," according to the Associated Press.
Mr. Zelenskyy is said to be personally planning and leading the defense of Ukraine's capital city.
On the orders of Vladimir Putin, Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine early yesterday, February 24, after months of military build-ups on Ukraine's borders.
Hundreds of casualties have been reported in Russia's war against Ukraine, though fatalities and injuries have not been independently verified as of this moment.
Over the last 36 hours, sanctions have increased by not only Western powers, but even two Chinese banks have restricted financing on Russian commodities.
Other sanctions are also being considered. Perhaps most notable is SWIFT, "a global messaging system connecting thousands of financial institutions around the world."
