Manufacturing in the United States is now in recession, thanks in part to President Trump's tariffs, which tax American companies and businesses.
In its worst showing since June of 2009, the ISM U.S. manufacturing purchasing managers’ index came in at 47.8 in September.
As this chart from CNBC shows, the manufacturing sector has been steeply declining for the last two months, with another sharp decline announced today:
The 47.8 was also drastically lower than expected: 50.2.
