Johnson: I Will Not Follow the Law on Brexit

Despite an act requiring him to request a delay to Brexit under specific conditions, Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that he will not follow the law and ask the EU to delay Brexit.

The European Union (Withdrawal) (No. 2) Act 2019, also known as the Benn Act, requires Mr. Johnson to ask the European Union to delay Britain's exit from the EU should Parliament decide to delay the October 31 deadline. Parliament did exactly that today.

In response, however, Mr. Johnson stated flatly that he will not follow the law.

"I will not negotiate a delay with the EU," the Prime Minister told MPs (Members of Parliament) after their vote.

This potentially throws Britain into a constitutional crisis, with the Prime Minister openly breaking a law created by Parliament. It also has the potential to cause a no-deal Brexit or could trigger another referendum on Brexit itself.
