Trump Administration Mired in Ukraine Quid Pro Quo Scandal

The Trump Administration found itself in the midst of one of its greatest scandals this week, as reports emerged that the President had engaged in an alleged quid pro quo with the Ukrainian government surrounding former Vice President Joe Biden and his son.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and NBC, the President repeatedly pressured the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate an already debunked conspiracy theory surrounding Hunter Biden.

President Trump claimed on Twitter on Saturday that nothing he did was illegal, but refused to release the transcript of the call. Multiple news agencies confirmed that the President, however, demanded that President Zelensky look into the firing of "corrupt" Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin and Vice President Biden's push to have him fired.

At the time, there was consensus in the United States that Shokin was indeed corrupt; President Trump in recent weeks, in contrast, has lambasted Mr. Biden for seeking his removal. Instead, the President has alleged that Mr. Biden nefariously had the prosecutor fired, in order to save his son Hunter, who was serving on the board of a Ukrainian company, from a non-existent investigation.

There is no evidence that this investigation existed, no evidence that Hunter Biden was accused by Ukraine of doing anything untoward, and Ukraine has officially stated that Hunter Biden and Joe Biden did nothing illegal or unethical.
