Government Shutdown Ends as Trump Capitulates
President Trump blinked in the end, bringing to a close the longest government shutdown in American history.
Started in December after the President shuttered the government because of his demands for a wall, Mr. Trump ended the fight after a day of drama.
Yesterday morning, his close confidant Roger Stone was arrested by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Later in the day, airports in the United States started to close because of the shutdown. By the afternoon, Trump had enough, and relented.
Now, there are three weeks to negotiate a new budget deal. Mr. Trump is also threatening to declare a national emergency for the border, despite not doing so for the first two years of his presidency.
